High Level Summary of Statistics Trend Last update: November 2017
A total of 8.4 million m3 overbark standing of timber was harvested from forests in Scotland in 2016. This represents a 1% decrease from the previous year. In the longer term the quantity of timber harvested has increased relatively steadily over the past 35 years and it is around seven times the level of the late 1970s.
The latest 50-year forecast of softwood availability (published in April 2014) estimates that timber availability in Scotland will average 10.2 million m3 a year from 2013 to 2061.
