Rural Scotland Key Facts
Description: Provides a summary of statistics for Scotland broken down into remote rural, accessible rural and the rest of Scotland.
Frequency of Publication: Biennial
Change in frequency of publication: Please note that Rural Scotland Key Facts will now be published on a biennial basis. There were no publications in 2013 and 2014. The publication was delayed from 2014 until 2015 so that it could be based on the new Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification 2013-2014, which was published at the end of November 2014. The decision to reduce the frequency is due to characteristics between urban and rural areas not changing markedly between publications.
Publication Delay: The publication of the next edition of the Rural Scotland Key Facts, that was due to be published in Spring 2017, has been delayed. The delay is due to issues with data that feed into the Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification. This has resulted in a delay in the release of the new version of the Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification. The new version of the Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification will now not be published until 2018. As a result, the next edition of the Rural Scotland Key Facts is now scheduled to be published in Autumn 2018.
Consultation: The Scottish Government is carrying out a consultation on the Rural Scotland Key Facts publication. This is an opportunity for users to express their opinions on the content and format of the publication in order that future releases will better meet their needs.
The consultation is now closed. The result will be available shortly.
A revisions policy for this publication is published on the Scottish Government website
