Engagement on social security

We have created opportunities for people across the country to get involved in the design and operation of Scotland's new social security system.

Experience panels

Scotland's social security system is being shaped by people with direct experience of the current benefits system, through the use of Experience Panels.

The Experience Panels research project was set up in 2017 and will run until the relevant benefits are being delivered by Social Security Scotland. More than 2,400 volunteers from across Scotland signed up.

Experience Panels involve people with experience of the benefits devolved to the Scottish Government, including:

  • most ill health and disability benefits including Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance and Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Carer's Allowance
  • benefits that are part of the Regulated Social Fund including Funeral Expenses Payment, Sure Start Maternity Grant, Cold Weather Payments and Winter Fuel Payments
  • Discretionary Housing Payments
  • Scottish Welfare Fund

See Experience Panel reports published to date.
