Guide to intercountry adoption

This guide gives an overview of intercountry adoptions into Scotland, providing answers to many frequently asked questions. It should not be taken as a full and complete guide to the law.

Prospective adopters should contact their local authority adoption team or an adoption agency registered to work on intercountry adoption for guidance, and seek independent legal advice.

Prospective adopters should also contact the relevant authorities in the country from which they wish to adopt, to obtain information about the country's requirements and eligibility criteria.
