School health

Medicines

As a child reaching their fullest potential at school can be interrupted by a medical condition, it is therefore essential that Health Boards and Local Authorities work together to ensure appropriate arrangements are put in place to allow the safe administration of medicines in school. The guidance gives advice on the storage and dispensing of medication in schools, and to parents/carers on providing supplies to their child's education establishment.

Food and Drink

We recognise how important a healthy balanced diet is to a child, especially when trying to concentrate hard on their studies.
Since 2003, school lunches in Scotland have undergone a transformation starting with the Hungry for Success initiative and the number of pupils eating school meals is at a 10-year high!

Following Hungry for Success, we implemented the Schools (Health Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007 and published the Nutritional Requirements for Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2008.
