Summary: Gender and School Education

  • In 2015/16, women school leavers had the highest levels of attainment with 67.3 per cent achieving one or more qualifications at SCQF level 6 or better, compared to 56.3 per cent for men school leavers.

  • In 2015/16, 92.2% of women school leavers were in a positive follow-up destination compared to 90.6% of men school leavers.

  • In September 2016, 63% of all secondary school teachers were women, however, when broken down by grade, only 41% of secondary school head teachers were women.

Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Levels- This publication the results of the Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Levels data collection, detailing pupils’ achievement (based on Teachers Professional Judgements) in reading, writing, listening and talking and numeracy. These data are experimental statistics and were first published on 13 December 2016.

Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy - This publication summarises the results from the Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy (SSLN), an annual sample survey which monitors national performance in literacy and numeracy in alternate years, for school pupils at P4, P7 and S2.

Summary statistics for schools in Scotland, No 6, 2015 Edition - This statistical publication provides information on the annual census of pupils and teachers in publicly funded schools, and of early learning and childcare provision in Scotland which is conducted in September each year. It also provides information from the school estate survey, and information on attendance and absence and exclusions from school on a biennial basis.

Summary statistics for attainment, leaver destinations and healthy living, No. 7: 2017 Edition - This annual statistical publication provides information on post review attainment for school leavers, initial and follow up school leaver destinations, and information from the Healthy Living Survey on free school meals and PE in schools.
