Public Protection - Sex Offenders

'Sex offenders' is a term which covers many different people who present different risks to society. Nearly all are already in our communities where the risks are managed within the MAPPA process. A registered sex offender is someone who is required to register with the Police in terms of the Sexual Offences Act 2003

It is important to bear in mind that a significant proportion of sexual crimes go unreported and therefore there are sex offenders who are not known to the authorities. The public needs to continue taking sensible safety precautions to minimise the risk from such individuals.
