The Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 came into force as part of Scottish law on 4 May 2006. You can view the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 online, or download a printable copy.
The Act is the end of a long process involving consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and much debate in Parliament. You can read about Parliament's consideration of the Bill on the Scottish Parliament website.
Before the Bill, the Scottish Government published a number of consultations about family law. The most recent consultation was called Family Matters: Improving Family Law in Scotland.
