The Scottish Government is committed to continuing to work with Malawi based on the unique and historical relationship between our two countries. The International Development Fund is supporting a range of projects through the Malawi Development Programme, guided by the Government of Malawi. These projects are delivering on the four policy strands of the Scotland – Malawi Co-operation Agreement: civic governance and society, education, health, and sustainable economic development.
The Malawi Development Programme was established following the signing of the Scotland – Malawi Co-operation Agreement in 2005, and currently supports over 40 projects in Malawi. Details of current and completed projects are included here. All projects contribute to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals and are delivered in line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
Malawian President Joyce Banda visited Scotland in March 2013 as part of the celebrations around the 200th anniversary of the birth of David Livingstone. The video shows some of the highlights of the visit.
