The Scottish Government opened a funding round for Iraq in 2011 following the confiscation of funds under the Proceeds of Crime legislation in the Scottish Courts. As the funds came from a company that was trading illegally in Iraq, a proportion of the money was allocated to projects working for the benefit of the Iraqi people. More background is available on the news release which was published at the time.
A total of £1 million was made available and following an indepdendent assessment process, a total of three projects were awarded funding. Iraq is not one of the Scottish Government priority countries so there are no plans to fund further work there now that the projects have come to an end.
