The Scottish and Italian Governments co-sponsored an event at the Glasgow Science Centre on 27 February 2015 to promote the forthcoming Milan EXPO 2015 which will run from May- October. The evening reception, hosted by the First Minister and the Italian Ambassador, followed a joint Scottish Government-Italian Government sponsored conference held earlier in the day.
This featured two discussion panels - one on Fairtrade in which Mr Yousaf, Minister for Europe and International Development, participated; and one on low carbon and energy. Senior school pupils from Vale of Leven Academy, Holyrood, Hillpark and Shawlands Secondary and youth networks with an interest in energy, climate change and fair trade issues attended the event alongside experts in these fields.
At the evening reception 400 guests enjoyed a dinner prepared by Italian Master-Chef Fabio Campoli. This event gave the opportunity to promote Scotland on the international stage, our fair trade credentials and our intention to participate in the Expo.
Earlier in the week Humza Yousaf MSP joined Scottish internationals Fraser Brown and Geoff Cross, and Carlo Perrotta, the Italian Consul-General at Murrayfield to promote the EXPO.
The Milan EXPO 2015 will be hosted by the city of Milan between 1 May and 31 October 2015: the theme for the event is Feeding the planet, energy for life. 147 countries – amongst them nearly all EU member States, 24 Commonwealth countries, China, India and the US - are participants on an exhibition site covering one million square metres on the outskirts of Milan.
Expo 2015 provides an opportunity to learn from others and sharing experience and best practice across Europe and enhance Scotland’s reputation and attractiveness. It also supports the internationalisation strand of Scotland’s Economic Strategy and practical delivery of the Action Plan for EU Engagement.
