Carer Positive is a scheme that recognises those employers that provide a particularly supportive working environment for those with caring role. The Carer Positive employer recognition scheme has been a consistent Government commitment since 2011. Carer Positive has come a long way with currently almost 270,000 employees covered by the scheme across Scotland across 73 employers.
Around 1 in 7 of the workforce will be carers holding down a job alongside managing their caring responsibilities, but carers are an often overlooked demographic. These numbers are likely to increase significantly as the population gets older and we continue to work longer. Carers, therefore, represent a significant and growing proportion of the workforce.
Carer Positive provides three tiers of recognition (Engaged, Established and Exemplary), and support for carers can take many forms so Carer Positive is appropriate for employers of all sizes and sectors, examples of employer support has been linked.
Carer Positive is as much about the employer as the employee - the Wheatley Group, an exemplary Carer Positive employer, note that, “any best practice we can implement to support our carers will benefit both us as an employer and our employees.”
Futher examples of case studies from Carer Positive accredited employers can be found on the Carer Positive website.
