Full guidance is being drafted to aid understanding and implementation of the provisions of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. The guidance will be structured into chapters on the different parts of the Act as well as those addressing cross-cutting considerations (e.g. the context of integration of health and social care).

Guidance development will draw on a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties to co-produce the guidance and capture what is important and useful. We are working with pilot areas to test certain provisions within the Act and will share lessons through the guidance.

Guidance Timeframe

Summer 2017 Initial drafting of guidance, co-producing with key partners and stakeholders
29 August 2017 Guidance development and engagement day to futher capture input from a range of stakeholders
Autumn 2017 Lessons learned from pilots incorporated into drafts
December 2017 Full draft guidance published to help preparations ahead of commencement on 01 April 2018

A readiness toolkit and accompanying guidance has already been issued as an early form of guidance to provide a framework for local authorities, health boards and integration authorities to evaluate their preparedness for commencement of the Act in April 2018.
