The Scottish Ministerial Working Group on Tobacco Control

The Scottish Ministerial Working Group on Tobacco Control is a Departmental Working Group chaired by Maureen Watt MSP, Minister for Public Health.

The formal remit of the working group is:

"To provide expert advice to the Scottish Government on tobacco control acting as a forum for the development of policy to reduce the impact of tobacco on Scotland’s health; monitoring and supporting the implementation of national policies, legislative controls and related national strategies / action plans; and providing a forum for the dissemination of best practice."

The Prevention Sub-Group of the Scottish Ministerial Working Group on Tobacco Control

A Prevention Sub-Group of the Ministerial Working Group on Tobacco Control was established on October 10, 2013. The Sub-Group is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the preventative actions in the new tobacco control strategy and for advising the Scottish Government on new actions to prevent the uptake of smoking among young people. The Sub-Group will ensure alignment with the wider national prevention priorties and collaborations.
