The Scottish Government Education and Training team has policy responsibility for the education, training and skills development of the NHSScotland workforce.
A key function of the team is sponsorship of and liaison with, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) which manages and co-ordinates education and training activity for NHSScotland staff.
Some of these activity have to meet the requirements laid down by UK-wide regulatory bodies. NES performance is reviewed by the Strategic Liaison and Performance Management Group (SLAPM).
The Education and Training policy work involves overseeing Scottish Medical Training, liaison with Skills for Health (a skills Council for all Health employers) and vocational training for the dental workforce.
The Scottish Medical Training Board (SMTB) (formerly Modernising Medical Careers in Scotland) aims to secure quality of care for patients. They were set up to ensure that we have an excellent standard of doctors in Scotland through flexible and efficient training opportunities:
