Climate Change and Public Procurement

Public procurement is expected to contribute to the Scottish Government’s climate change targets and a range of public bodies are required to report annually on how their procurement policies and activity have contributed to:

  • carbon emissions reduction targets;
  • climate change adaptation; and
  • have acted sustainably.

These reports are expected to include supporting information and best practice examples.

Compliance with the sustainable procurement duty should aid in this reporting process as the tools associated with the duty prompt public bodies to consider carbon and energy consumption, resource efficiency and pollution during the procurement process.
