Neighbourhood Noise Nuisance

Noise Nuisance

Noise is unwelcome sound. Excessive noise can reduce our quality of life, and damage our health and the environment. Noise has long been recognised as the largest nuisance problem.

Excessive noise causes disruption and distress to everyone - at home, at leisure and at work. There is no doubt that our capacity to make noise is increasing. Equally, lower tolerance of neighbours and higher expectations of quiet have been blamed for more and more complaints.

In Scotland, Local Authorities report that a rising number of complaints are about neighbour noise and mediation services report that around 50 per cent of neighbour mediation cases are about noise disturbance.
