In January 2013, the Scottish Government published an Overview of College Regionalisation Plans. Our plans are being taken forward in a number of ways. For example, in March 2012, 13 college regions were announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning. In addition, a number of colleges have already decided to ‘merge’ and such mergers have been, or will be, taken forward using existing powers of the Scottish Ministers under the 1992 Act. We have also brought forward the Post-16 Education (Scotland) Bill, which was introduced to Parliament on 27 November 2012. Much of the Bill makes provision in connection with our plans for college regionalisation.
