Youth Employment Initiative
The Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) has been allocated £60m from the European Structural and Investment Funds 2014-2020 programmes. Activity will assess the skills gap among young people in South West Scotland and help those who are unemployed into sustainable employment through tailored education and training.
The SI Lead Partners are Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and 11 of Scotland's local authorities.
Lead Partners will work with education providers and employers to determine the skills gaps among young people in South West Scotland before creating tailored education and training activity to enable them to secure sustainable long-term employment.
The strategic aims of the Youth Employment Initiative SI are:
- the sustainable integration into the labour market of young people, in particular those not in employment, education or training, including young people at risk of social exclusion and young people from marginalised communities.
- to reduce the number of unemployed, long-term unemployed and inactive, and socially excluded young people in South West Scotland.
