Food Education - Learning about our food from plough to plate
Making sure that Scottish pupils know where their food comes from, how it affects their health and the environment as well as our nation’s economy is vital. It’s particularly relevant as people are becoming increasingly interested in the provenance of their food.
The Scottish Government's focus on food education, with around £5m support for food education projects over 2010 - 2017, is helping hundreds of thousands of young people make informed choices about the food they eat. It is providing children with more opportunity to use farms, fishing and food companies to learn about their health, the environment and their relationship with food. Pupils are developing an understanding of Scotland’s growing food and drink industry and the career options available – wherever their skills lie across the curriculum.
