What is Community Regeneration?
'Community regeneration is working to improve the lives of people in communities.' Alastair Smeaton, The Richmond Fellowship
'Community regeneration is … intervention … aimed at economic, social and/or physical improvement, and involving some form of partnership working.' The University of Glasgow
Welcome to the Learning in Regeneration Skills Pack. This pack is for all of us who are involved in community regeneration or who would like to get involved. We might perhaps be a volunteer, a board or committee member, an elected member of a local council or a paid staff member in the public or voluntary sector. We might be involved in community planning, improving housing, health, access to employment, equalities, education, services for young people, anti-poverty work, training and community safety, or many other such areas.
Whatever area we are working in, we need to ensure we carry out our roles effectively, regularly reviewing what skills we need and identifying the most appropriate way to meet these needs. This pack has been created to help with this, with the aim of providing a flexible resource for all roles and circumstances.
The pack has been developed with the help of a wide range of partners and others involved in community regeneration, and through extensive piloting.
We will all benefit from using the pack to develop our skills and subsequently improve our effectiveness in regenerating communities across the whole of Scotland.
