Housing Voluntary Grant Scheme

The Housing Voluntary Grant Scheme gives funding to voluntary projects that will benefit people in Scotland.

Who can apply

Grants for existing services are available for national organisations. These services must have:

  • demonstrated that they work
  • provided valuable services over a number of years

For the purposes of this grant scheme, the definition of national is an organisation whose operations cover most, if not all, of Scotland. Local organisations can apply as part of a partnership to achieve this national coverage.

Funding for new or innovative projects with the potential to benefit Scotland as a whole is open to both local and national organisations.

Awards can be made for core funding, specific projects or a mix of both. If it is a new project it must also be able to be rolled out nationally within three years.

Grant applications for 2017 to 2018 are now closed. To apply for a grant in 2018 to 2019, call Daniel Hepplewhite on 0131 244 4767 or email HVSG@gov.scot. The scheme is reviewed annually, and is subject to funding being made available by Ministers.

Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living £70,000 Glasgow Operation of Homes2Fit, a database matching disabled people to suitable adapted housing.
Positive Action In Housing £53,000 Glasgow A casework service to provide free advice and information to people from BME, refugee, asylum seeker and new migrant communities.
PATH Scotland £85,750 Glasgow Training and Education Programme for BME/Refugee communities plus after care support to trainees.
Say-Women £64,830 Glasgow Increase awareness of the needs of survivors of childhood sexual abuse amongst housing and support organisations.
Scottish Churches Housing Action £59,000 Edinburgh Project supports a range of services and activities including training for volunteers involved in local starter packs projects and befriending networks.
Scottish Refugee Council £132,000 Glasgow The project offers new refugees the opportunity to rebuild their lives in Scotland by offering a personalised; outcomes based service which promotes individual independence.
Scottish Women's Aid £72,345 Glasgow Project focusses on tackling and preventing homelessness for women who are victims of domestic abuse.
Homeless Action Scotland £168,000 Edinburgh Facilitates national homelessness networks and National Homelessness and Employability co-ordinator.
Shelter Housing Law Service £183,868 Edinburgh To provide access to specialist legal expertise and representation on housing issues across Scotland
Scottish Homelessness Involvement Empowerment Network (SHIEN) £49,359 Glasgow Project promotes service user involvement and helps professionals make better use of the assets and expertise of the people using their services.
