Research Projects from 2010

Project Details

Energy Efficiency of Buildings – update Operational Rating System for ACEP requirements for use in Scotland
Contractor: AECOM
Status: Completed
Project Year: 2012/13

The objective of this project is to make changes to the present UK Government methodology for the operational ratings system used in England & Wales and Northern Ireland so that it can be used in Scotland.

Energy Efficiency of Buildings – update Operational Rating System for ACEP requirements for use in Scotland
Contractor: BRE
Status: Completed
Project Year: 2012/13

The main objective of this project was to revise the part of SBEM which is used in Scotland to supplement EPCs and Recommendation Reports for non-domestic buildings, with the addition of an Action Plan. This will enable ACEPs to be prepared to comply with Section 63 of the CCSA and allow the lodgement of ACEPs on the EPC Register (currently being developed under a separate project).

Climate Change Adaptation: Review of specific building standards
Contractor: Building Standards Division
Status: Completed
Project Year 2011-12

Within the Built Environment Sector Action Plan a list of current and planned actions proposed by the Building Standards Division (BSD) were identified. This report reviewed the actions and identified what steps BSD has taken to carry out to fulfil these actions.

Final Report

Identify energy profiles of existing non-domestic buildings and prioritise improvement measures
Contractor: Green Energy Partners
Status: Complete
Project Year 2011/12

This project reviewed findings from previous research, identified the energy profiles of the different categories of existing non-domestic buildings and prioritised the building improvement measures that will deliver the most cost effective CO2 reduction measures for each building category.

Final Report

Existing Energy Efficiency legislation and schemes to reduce Green House Gases and their impact on proposed Section 63 regulations
Contractor: Building Standards Division
Status: Completed
Project Year 2010/11

This project assessed how the ACEP scheme fits into the wider programme to reduce carbon emissions as well as considering how it works along side all appropriate energy rating tools.

Final report

Operational Ratings Stage 2 - Scoping Study
Contractor: AECOM
Status: Completed
Project Year 2010/11

This project carried out a scoping study to determine the extent of work and timescale required to revise the existing UK Government methodology for the production of Operational Ratings (ORs), Display Energy Certificates (DECs) and Advisory Reports (ARs) to enable these to be delivered in Scotland for existing non domestic buildings for Section 63 of CCSA.

Final report

Mapping non-domestic buildings in Scotland
Contractor: Energy Management Solutions
Status: Completed
Project Year: 2010/11

Further profiling of EPC data to support project from 2009/10 which collected records from Scottish Assessors and data from EPCs to profile stock.

Final report

Development of a points system for alternative improvements to existing non-dom buildings
Contractor: Building Research Establishment
Status: Completed
Project Year: 2010/11

This project developed a points system to enable easy comparison of energy loading in buildings. The system is based on:

1. recommended improvements
2. alternative improvements
3. operational strategies
