National Collections

National Galleries of Scotland includes the National Gallery, the newly refurbished Scottish National Portrait Gallery, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the Dean Gallery, and two partner galleries at Duff House and Paxton House.

National Museums Scotland includes the redeveloped National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, the National Museum of Costume, near Dumfries, the National Museum of Flight, East Lothian, National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride, and the National War Museum Scotland, Edinburgh Castle.

National Library of Scotland is Scotland's only legal deposit library. It is Scotland's largest library and users have free access to over 14 million items.

National Records of Scotland was created in April 2011, with the merging of the National Archives of Scotland and the General Register Office for Scotland. They look after Scotland's National archives, maintain central registers, and run Scotland's census.

Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland collects, records and interprets information on the architectural, industrial, archaeological and maritime heritage of Scotland.
