There is a rich tradition of Scots language in poetry, song and literature.  This includes both the oral traditions of distinct communities and the writing of many Scottish authors and poets, for example John Barbour, Robert Henryson, William Dunbar, Gavin Douglas, David Lyndsay, Robert Sempill, Lady Grizel Baillie, Allan Ramsay, Robert Fergusson, Robert Burns, Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, William Alexander, George MacDonald, J M Barrie, Ian MacLaren, Violet Jacob, Hugh MacDiarmid, Lewis Grassic Gibbon, Douglas Young, John Buchan, Sidney Goodsir Smith, Robert Garioch and Robert McLellan, Tom Leonard, Irvine Welsh, Liz Lochhead and many more.  More detail on this can be found on the website of the Scots Language Centre.
