Traditional Building Skills

Traditional building skills are used to construct, maintain and repair traditional buildings.  Traditional skills not only help to sustain our built environment but also make an important contribution to sustainable housing and the delivery of economic growth through employment within the construction sector.

In November 2012, Historic Scotland hosted the Stimulating Demand for Traditional Skills Summit, highlighting the need for more proactive repair and maintenance of traditional buildings.  At the conference it was announced that Historic Scotland would work in partnership with CITB-ConstructionSkills Scotland to pilot a Traditional Building Health Check scheme.

Traditional Skills make important contributions to:

Regeneration

Energy Efficiency

Sustainable Housing
