The Scottish Government has set up an environmental forum to provide advice and to challenge the 2014 Commonwealth Games delivery partners on the sustainability and environmental aspects of the Games, including on the design and construction of facilities and planning and operation of the Games and on legacy issues. The membership is drawn from environmental and wildlife protection organisations, local government, Scottish Government and agencies. The Forum is chaired by the Scottish Government.
In order to fulfil a commitment made in the Glasgow 2014 bid to offset carbon emissions from the Games, the Scottish Government has developed a carbon offsetting scheme for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Saltire Professional Fellowships allows key mid-career professionals from Commonwealth countries vulnerable to climate change to undertake short term Fellowships with relevant organisations in Scotland towards international knowledge transfer on climate change mitigation.
