This consultation focuses on the content and format of a public resource that will look to provide information across three pillars: rights and information, accessibility of support, and transitions. The information you see here will be developed into a website and mobile device app. The case studies reflect the lived experiences of disabled children, young people of their families and help to highlight examples of best practice.

In 2016, the Scottish Government funded a survey with families across Scotland to gather evidence about the information needs of families of disabled children and young people. Based on that preliminary consultation, the resource we are developing will aim to address the information needs that families have identified as priorities.

We have worked closely with over ninety separate policy areas and a wide range of partners to compile the content you see in this resource . However, the Scottish Government is committed to ensuring this content meets the needs of families and is useful, clear and empowering. Therefore, the consultation will seek to understand the information needs of families in relation to the content of the resource and we will consult on the full content rather than a basic draft, to ensure that it accurately reflects the information that families want and need.

This consultation will be one step towards developing a central, inclusive source of information that seeks to ease the pressure on families who have limited time and resources. Following the consultation, the content will be developed into a website and mobile app, which will aim to be accessible, inclusive and dynamic.
