An analysis of the responses to the 2016 Scottish Government public consultation on 'The Relaxation of Planning Controls for Digital Infrastructure' (e.g. phone masts, street cabinets and antennas)

Executive Summary

The Scottish Government published a consultation on proposals to extend permitted development (PD) rights for electronic communications code operators for development involved in rolling out their infrastructure - namely digital communications infrastructure (e.g. phone masts, lines, cabinets and antennas).

PD rights remove the need to apply for planning permission for specified development where the associated conditions and restrictions on the PD rights are met.

The consultation ran from 10 August to 4 November 2016. 38 responses were received from members of the public, planning authorities, the communications industry, heritage and environmental bodies, government agencies and others.
