ISBN: 9781786523976

An independent research project into Scottish unconventional oil and gas: compatibility with Scottish greenhouse gas emissions targets commissioned by the Scottish Government as part of a programme of evidence-gathering on unconventional oil and gas in Scotland.

Executive Summary

CCC

On 28 January 2015 the Scottish Government announced a moratorium on unconventional oil and gas (UOG).

Scottish Ministers commissioned a series of independent research projects into UOG to examine the potential environmental, health and economic impacts and to inform our evidence-led approach.

The research project into climate change impacts was carried out by the Committee on Climate Change. The research aims were to:

• examine the impacts on territorial carbon emissions of unconventional oil and gas activities in Scotland in line with the economic scenarios;

• consider how the impacts might vary over time.
