Executive Summary

This is the first release of the Scottish Government Workforce Information official statistics publication. Data are presented at the end of each year quarter from 2012 to 2015. Description of trends in the data, and the current position at the end of December 2015 (the most recent quarter), are given.

Full time equivalent numbers and headcount are given for each category of directly employed staff.

Headcounts are given for each category of non-directly employed workers engaged in work for the Scottish Government.

Sickness absence data for directly employed staff are presented for all absences, short absences (20 days or less), and long term absences (more than 20 days). Two measures of sickness data are given: average working days lost per staff year, and percentage of working days lost.

Diversity data for directly employed staff are presented by the following characteristics: age, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital/civil partnership status, religion or belief, and sexual orientation.
