The UK Public Service Pensions Act 2013 reforms all public sector pensions including police pensions. The Scottish Government had to comply with the requirement of the Act to design a reformed police pension scheme which will come into being on 1 April 2015.
This meets the Scottish Government’s Safer and Stronger and Wealthier and Fairer Strategic Objectives.
The Police Pension Scheme (Scotland) 2015 (the 2015 Scheme) replaces two existing police pension schemes, the Police Pension Scheme 1987 and The New Police Pension Scheme 2006, which will close to new entrants on 31 March 2015. The 2015 Scheme
will provide Scotland’s 17,254 (at 31/12/14) police officers with access to a police pension scheme from 1 April 2015.
