Healthcare Scientists are an essential part of the NHS Workforce required to deliver safe, high quality, effective as well as person centred, healthcare. They are the fourth largest clinical group in NHSScotland, and number around 6000 across the three strands of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Physiological Sciences.
Collectively they undertake around 60 million laboratory tests, 730,000 physiological measurements and manage medical equipment across primary and secondary care with a replacement value in excess of £760m. They contribute to 80% of all diagnoses.
Services and the Scientists who delivery them, need support to redesign and bring new thinking and solutions to the challenges currently faced by the system and to energise the professional leadership to create coherence and drive improvement.
