Scotland’s first ever Historic Environment Strategy is a high level framework which sets out a 10 year vision for the historic environment and is owned, not by Government, but by the people of Scotland. It was developed with stakeholders who identified the need for a set of strategic priorities which will help to align and prioritise sector activity towards a common goal. It is therefore owned, not by Government, but by the people of Scotland. The key outcome of the Strategy is to ensure that the cultural, social, environmental and economic value of Scotland’s heritage makes a strong contribution to the wellbeing of the nation and its people.
Many of the activities that the sector are carrying out already support the Strategy but delivering the vision will require the range of bodies, groups and individuals with an interest in the historic environment to work together. The Strategy sets out a governance structure which will be implemented to support delivery of the Strategy including work which will be taken forward to measure our collective progress against the vision, and ultimately, the success of the Strategy itself.
