Data Zones are small geographical areas used for producing small area statistics such as the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. (SIMD.) Data Zones are groups of Census output areas which have populations of between 500 and 1,000 household residents.
Data Zones need to be redrawn as the population of SCotland is redistributed over time. The publication of detailed information from the 2011 Population Census provides us with the updated information we need to redraw Data Zones. We will issue a set of proposed draft 2011 Data Zones and invite views on the proposal.
