Redesigning the Community Justice System: A Consultation on Proposals

Redesigning the Community Justice System: A Consultation on Proposals

Thursday, December 20, 2012

ISBN: 9781782562986

A consultation seeking views on Scottish Government proposals to redesign the community justice system.

Executive Summary

The consultation paper sets out the Scottish Government's proposals to redesign the community justice system.

The three options are:

• Option A: An enhanced Community Justice Authority (CJA) model, where changes are made to CJA membership and functions.

• Option B: A local authority model, where local authorities assume responsibility for the strategic planning, design and delivery of offender services in the community.

• Option C: A single service model, where a new national social work-led service for community justice (separate to and sitting alongside the Scottish Prison Service) is established.

Written responses to the consultation paper are welcomed.

We will also be holding workshops, during the consultation period, to gather opinions which will help the Scottish Government make a decision about the way forward. More details on these events will be available on the Scottish Government Reducing Reoffending website in due course.

The consultation will conclude on 30 April 2013.
