VULNERABILITY OF SCOTTISH SEABIRDS TO OFFSHORE WIND

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

ISBN: 9781782560265

The project considers the vulnerability of seabird species to interactions (collision and displacement) with offshore wind farms.

Executive Summary

The project considers the vulnerability of seabird species to interactions (collision and displacement) with offshore wind farms. The report addresses the questions at a strategic level rather than a site specific level. It seeks to characterise seabirds according to aspects of their behaviour, ecology and conservation status, and presents a cumulative picture, determining which Scottish seabird species appear most vulnerable at a cumulative impacts level, considering breeding season, migration and overwintering periods.

The aim of the project is to provide species sensitivity scores for Scottish offshore wind developments to assist regulators and developers clarify which are species of particular concern and which species are less vulnerable to interactions with wind farms.
