Purpose

 

Local Government and Communities Directorate works to deliver better outcomes for people and the places they live in.  We do this by being innovative, promoting equality and fairness, building assets within communities and encouraging citizen ownership.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Strengthening the relationship between central and local government and across the wider public sector.
  • Providing strategy, policy and guidance on planning and architecture and promoting the creation of successful, sustainable places.
  • Leading policy on Third Sector, Equality and Human Rights. 
  • Balancing the Government’s world-leading climate change aspirations with achieving sustainable economic growth.
  • Promoting reform of public services and ensuring that community planning arrangements support local implementation of that reform.
